At the end of 2016 I found myself in need of a new project. I learned a lot over the years in the industry and felt it was time to build my own farm. So I reached out to my past client to see what he was doing with his property. Come to find out it had sat dormant these many years in the same condition as the neighbor had left it. It was an empty piece of land covered in trash. I knew that if we were going to have any longevity in this project, we would have to start from the ground up following the guidelines set forth by the county and put in the infrastructure needed to accommodate such growth. And so we set forth a plan. this plan included building a processing facility, a home for workers green houses and so on. The owner of the property being the financier, and I would be the project manager as well as grower. I purchased a 32 foot motorhome and my wife and I left for Trinity county...
Eventually we cleared off the site, leveled the ground to make ready for cultivation. Around this time I began to notice that my partner on this property was not handling the build out as expeditiously as needed for success. A key factor for successful cultivation is getting your plants out on time. Which is impossible without infrastructure. We had no place for vegetative growth on the property, no green houses to grow in and my wife and I were still living in our RV. Which is fine for 2 people but not for a full grow team. We were getting into spring and time was running short.
In order to provide a consistent result you must have the appropriate tools to do so. From the outset I’ve been working directly with the county to ensure we are meeting the guidelines set forth so there will be no surprises down the line. Fortunately, the Trinity planning department is very realistic with timelines and doesn’t expect this huge undertaking to be done over night. However they do want to see progress. The county expects these items to be finished in order to retain our compliant standing.
